I’m a little nervous about publishing what I expect to get out of publishing my thoughts and ideas, and to a great extent that’s why I’m here.
I’m going to try and keep external links to a minimum on the main page, but they will creep in now and again to illustrate how an idea might unpack.
I’m a part-time PhD candidate at the School of Creative Industries, University of the West of Scotland. My research question title is ‘New Media, The Individual and Energy Policy: An investigation of non-institutional responses to energy challenges in a networked society’. I’m interested in the way that influence propagates, whether information flows can predict circles of influence and whether data quality has any bearing on the way that individuals influence each other online. But right now I’m looking at the deeper philosophical implications of the sharing of mind that the whole internet ‘movement’ seems to engender and whether concepts like democracy are still applicable if opinions and opinion-forming processes are part automated by technologies like RSS.
